M.I.A. too burnt out to tour, plus other reasoning

The dance party of a show at Bonnaroo was officially M.I.A.’s last performance for a while.

Though she did show up for the show– no one was sure if she’d keep her commitment due to her on-stage announcement days before about ending her tour early– M.I.A has no plans to make up any of her canceled dates.

She told nymag.com, “I’m canceling because I feel like physically I just have to stop for a second. It’s too insane.”

Makes sense to me.

Only she went on to say, “I think for an artist like me, it’s so important for me to be in the streets and go to the same shop every day and see the same people, and like, communicate. And it’s really difficult to do that when you’re in the city every day for 24 hours. Like, I love connecting with my band, but I want to actually help them and be a part of people’s lives. Which is really hard when you’re on tour.”

““I’ve been writing on tour. I’m really into writing new songs. I’m going to put out a new record instead. At the end of the day, I’m here, you know,” M.I.A. told them.

I even get most of that. I understand she wants to see her friends and family, make an impact on their lives, be immersed in her surroundings for inspiration. I just always thought being an artist meant communicating to the masses through your albums and performances.

I’m not going to argue, as I’ve played out Kala and am itching for some new M.I.A.-induced dance music. So if she is going to spend the time writing and working on a new album, fine with me.
